Mike Chambers presented Apollo at ACDS. I posted his slides that shed some light on the Apollo project. I have had the pleasure to work with Apollo and it is easily one of the most impressive projects in development at Adobe.

What is Apollo?
Apollo is a cross-OS runtime that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, Ajax) to build and deploy desktop RIA’s.

More to come!
Ted :)

It's a JRE ! Please, choose Java for your runtime !
uhhhhgggg JRE. Apollo is 1/5 the size of JRE with allot more funtionality.
Ted :)
Yes, these Java folk don't seem to get it yet.
Amazing, simply amazing. I've know Flash since its 2.0 installment, right after Macromedia bought FutureWave.
Whoever suggested JRE, probably have no idea that the gargantuan API, that wants to do it all, and not be an expert in anything.
This is the way to go: JIT-compiled, managed code, that's easy to debug and develop.
Have you thought about the use of GPU acceleration for vector rendering?
AJAX = Lots of work to do something simple w
Apollo = Less work to do alot of something complex
Is there even a choice?
Will Apollo have full access on system resources as a native application or it will be operating on some kind of sandbox?
This question goes for different type of devices (PCs, PDAs...)
How will it compare in speed terms e.g. with Java?
Thanks
About using Java...
Java is opensource nowadays. So the JRE doesn't need to be 25MB (I expect a modularized JRE to be one of the first things to be done by the community). It has an unbeaten record in security. It has good performance. It runs on all platforms.
So please reinvent the wheel.
Is there any thought towards Peer to Peer networking in said Apollo RIA's?

Excellent! So it has standardized access to all relational databases, complete and up-to-date based XML and WS support, full featured collections, multi-threading, built in profiling hooks, native interface capabilities, localization support, accessbility support, regular expressions, RPC, management extensions, and a robust security model.
Can't wait to use it.
Are there at least any rumors or announcements of when its coming out? We neeeeeed it, We neeeeeeeeed it
Hello,
How can a asp.net developer move towards this direction.
