Inspired by this weeks stock market drops, and the "taking 3-d objects and putting them in 3-d space", this game challenges you to get to click to the bottom with as few clicks as possible, and as fast as possible. Click wrong, and you go back to the start! Later game levels introduce a bigger stack, and various motions of the objects to confuse you. Can you click your way to the bottom!

AS3 Cloud APIs - Nonoba Payment API

DIGG IT!     0 Comments Published at 9:24 AM .

This morning Nonoba Payment showed up in the listing of API's to approve. The API is a payment service that you can integrate directly into your Flash/Flex based game. The Nonoba Payment API provides a user account service that provides payment properties and a user data storage including achievements and a scoring methods. The service pays the game developer 70% of the money transacted for the game and gives the developer direct access to services for integration.

It is really nice to see an API like this exists to make game/app payment easier for developers.

If you know of other great AS3 Cloud/Service APIs, please submit them here!

Sliderocket Launches

DIGG IT!     0 Comments Published at 7:22 AM .

Congratulations to Mitch Grasso and his team at SlideRocket on their launch. SlideRocket is an amazing app and when I first saw the early prototype at Adobe preceding the first AIRCamp in San Francisco, I knew this was something different. That evening Mitch took me on the inside tour of the app showing some features in development in Flex Builder 2 and just taking a look at the codebase it stood out. Just seeing where he was in development part time was impressive.

Mitch congratulations to you and the whole SlideRocket team. Please keep pushing the boundaries of RIA and with it the future of software!

360Flex SJ 2008 - Encrypting Flex & Protecting Revenue by Andrew Westberg

DIGG IT!     2 Comments Published at 12:26 PM .

So your dreaming about the ALL the new customers you will be able to reach if you release an AIR version of your ?really cool? Flex Application. Sounds good, but how are you going to make money with an off-line application that is *not* licensed or protected?
More importantly, how will you understand who is using it, when, how often, and control usage of it?
The good news is that you have options! Methods like Code Embedding, Obfuscation and Encryption all have advantages for the Flex/AIR Developer; each has it's own levels of pain to implement and apply with confidence. In this session, you will learn the basics of code protection (with examples) and the advantages/disadvantages of each approach. Also, you will see how to apply thee techniques to secure a fully-blown,enterprise-level, modular cairngorm Flex Application. (whoo hoo!)

360Flex SJ 2008 - Versioning Support for Large Apps & Portals by Alex Harui

DIGG IT!     0 Comments Published Monday, October 20, 2008 at 11:48 AM .

Many large applications and most portals are architected as a shell application that loads other sub-applications or modules. As the number of sub-applications grows or if sub-applications are provided by third-parties, it becomes impractical to ensure that every SWF involved has been compiled by the same version of Flex. This session will describe how, starting in Flex 3.1, you can design your applications and subapplications in ways that they will properly run despite the fact that some of the SWFs are compiled with different versions of Flex.

Flash Player 10 is released! Flash Player 9 it was a great era!

DIGG IT!     9 Comments Published Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 8:54 PM .

I started working at Adobe just before Flash Player 9 was released and it has been a real workhorse changing an entire industry. FP9 enabled Flex 2, introduced ActionScript 3, new API's, a radically new event model, and jittification( if there is such a thing). Flash Player 9 you had a great run but like all good things they must end. I wish you a fond farewell, you were a great player but we need something new.

Introducing Flash Player 10!

Simply put FP10 is the most powerful player ever created. It sports a new graphics engine for custom filters, a new Vector Class, a new text engine(RTL anyone), perspective transform, dynamic sound generation, local file access, Speex audio codec, hardware acceleration, a better garbage collector and unloading Loader classes (ahhhh...), and a new vector drawing API enabling FXG. Features here. It is easily the best player release in a very long time and the engineering teams have been working round the clock. Simply put this release rocks. The 10th version of the most widely installed software in the history of software.

Go Flash Platform, Go Flash Player 10.

Flash Player 9 we hardly knew ya.

AMP Badges for "Flex In a Week" and "360Flex San Jose 2008"

I had to change the MRSS urls and the AMP badges for "Flex In a Week" and "360Flex San Jose 2008". The new badges are posted to the right and geo-restrictions have been removed ( I need to test this, please let me know if anyone has issue with them.). I am updating the old URLS now to redirect to these new feeds.

Direct Feeds:
http://sessions.adobe.com/360FlexSJ2008/feed.xml
http://sessions.adobe.com/FlexInAWeek/feed.xml

Badge HTML:
http://sessions.adobe.com/360FlexSJ2008/
http://sessions.adobe.com/FlexInAWeek/

JS Badge:
http://sessions.adobe.com/360FlexSJ2008/index.js
http://sessions.adobe.com/FlexInAWeek/index.js

To use these JS badges simply put this in html:

<script src="http://sessions.adobe.com/360FlexSJ2008/index.js"></script>

Some additional news we are migrating all video content for developers onto AdobeTV! The delays in posting the new videos for 360Flex and Flex in a week were due to some work migrating them for larger syndication over at AdobeTV. We should have the MRSS feeds as channels at AdobeTV soon, more to follow there.

FLASH PLAYER 10 : UPDATE YOUR DETECTION

DIGG IT!     7 Comments Published Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 9:08 AM .

Every 18 months we run into the same problem when a new version of the Flash Player is released, detection scripts. I have been working with Flash Player 10 and there are many sites who are only detecting for Flash Player 9 and when you have 10 installed, you see nothing. This is a pretty old problem but there is a solution to it and it makes your life much easier.

Introducing SWFObject:

SWFObject handles placing a Flash Player into the browser DOM compatibly. It is a simple JavaScript library that embeds Flash SWF files on any page. The library both detects if Flash can be embedded and does so with fully compliant markup. Long story short it makes it easy too. Lets take a look.

SWFObject downloads
SWFObject Generator!

Also to get people started exploring SWFObject I have hosted the HTML generator for SWFObject, this simple HTML application allows you to generate everything you need for your specific SWF files. There are 2 ways to use SWFObject, Static(HTML) and Dynamic (JS) and the generator creates both allowing you to see the html needed in both cases.

There is also another important aspect to using SWFObject, SEO. SWFObject is the defacto way YouTube (Google) embeds Flash files on its site and one of their engineers, Geoff Stearns, created the project. It is the first embedding technique to work with google's crawler to allow your SWF files to be indexed correctly.

What I really like about SWFObject is that if you use it you are ready for Flash Player 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and onward. The detection script is forward compatible in its detection so once implemented on your site, it will always work. The API also makes it easy to designate the minimium version that you require based on your content. If you are using Pixel Bender or any of the new Flash Player 10 features, simply designate version 10 and version 10 or higher will be detected.

I also want to give credit to the creators of SWFObject, special thanks to Geoff Stearns, Bobby Vandersluis, and Mike Williams. They have done an amazing job maintaining the software and it is easily the most complete detection system for Flash Player ever created and is now the default in all of Adobe Creative Suite CS4.

Mike your legacy lives on! :)

Ted :)

360Flex SJ 2008 - PatchPanel/SwitchBoard: Connect SWF/AIR w/CS apps by Bernd Paradies

DIGG IT!     1 Comments Published Friday, October 10, 2008 at 12:12 PM .

PatchPanel is a Flex library called cs3.swc, which allows Flex developers to access the ExtendScript DOM of the host application through ActionScript objects. SwitchBoard makes it possible for AIR stand-alone applications to work with Creative Suite applications. The SwitchBoard installer will install two services onto your machine:
SwitchBoard Service forwards messages between AIR and CS applications; and the SwitchBoardLauncher launches target applications when necessary. AIR developers only need to include a Flex library called SwitchBoard.swc to their projects in order to send and receive scripts to/from other CS applications. PatchPanel and SwitchBoard will be posted on Adobe Labs this year.

onFlash.org, Flash Camp, Flash Player 10, and Flash, The Platform

DIGG IT!     5 Comments Published Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:31 AM .

In anticipation of the launch of Flash Player 10, I am now officially blogging at onFlash.org. At the end of the day whenever you develop with Flash CS3/CS4, Flex 2/3/4 or "Thermo" tools and frameworks you are targeting Flash Player in the browser or Flash Player within AIR, and soon Flash Player and AIR on devices. The key is that Flash is a platform and more and more we are seeing that platform grow in capability and reach. Changing my domain name to onFlash.org is about focusing on Flash as a platform.

Flash as a Platform:

This weekend there is a FlashCamp at Adobe San Francisco (601 Townsend). If you are in the bay area I strongly encourage you to attend and register today because space is limited. The Flash CS4 team is giving away Flash CS4 to registered attendees and this alone is pretty rare. I am going to be there hacking away at FP10 all evening Friday so it should be a great time.

My team will also be recording Flash 10 demos. Bring your "A" game because we are looking for killer Flash Player 10 demos for the Adobe MAX Keynote, no I am not kidding. Please make sure to get your demos recorded at the event. The MAX keynote team will be reviewing all of the entries and contacting folks about using the demos in the MAX keynote.

Seriously, it is time to get your Pixel Bending and Vector class use into shape!

Go Flash Player 10!
Go Flash, The Platform!

Ted :)
