Well it seems that the new LiveScribe Smartpen is inducing a new use of Flash, Pencasting. The pen records audio and pen motion in parallel so you can take notes and record the room audio all in one. The output is a PenCast. LiveScribe makes great use of full screen in flash and has a great ui when you go full screen.

Congratulations to the team at Ribbit, they are now apart of British Telecom. The deal closed at 8AM and it is a very good day for Adobe Flash Player as a platform. Ribbit has done an amazing job leveraging the existing API's of the Flash Player for audio based telephony. With the acquisition by BT, they are now going global and extending the reach of lightweight ip telephony.

I had a situation where I needed to edit an FLV today. And went searching for an application to edit this common file format. It seems that the only FLV editor on the planet is written in Flex using Adobe AIR. I am really impressed by the application and I actually think it is one of the best AIR applications I have used. It is a simple utility and gives you direct binary editability into an FLV file. You can inject and edit FLV metadata and crop at any FLV keyframe.

The Silicon Valley Flex User Group is hosting its meeting this week at Adobe Systems in San Francisco (601 Townsend) on July 17 from 6:00-9:30PM. If you have not attended a SILVAFUG meeting I would like to encourage you to join us this week. We got a much larger space for the user group and it should be a great evening learning the frameworks of Flex, Cairngorm and PureMVC. Here are the details:
