New Role at Adobe ... Making MAX Great

Two weeks ago I began a transition into a new role at Adobe. Over the next 4 months I am focused on making Adobe MAX events great in Chicago, Barcelona, and Tokyo. Having attended many MAX/UCON/DEVCON events as a customer, MAX has migrated towards a more marketing centric event of late. This year we are restoring MAX to focus on the community of developers and designers creating great expieriences. The change is a major shift in tone and focus that, I believe, will result in the best Adobe MAX to date.

The theme for Adobe MAX this year is Connect. Discover. Inspire.

Connect.

  • Connect with the Community.

  • Strengthen Relationships.

  • Foster Ecosystem and Evangelism.

Discover.

  • Discover the latest technology.

  • Learn new skills.

  • Enable rich, engaging experiences.

Inspire.

  • Find inspiration in leading developers / designers.

  • Inspire each other to build innovative projects.

It is one thing to put words on a page and quite another to take action. We are very busy with the latter in creating areas for the community to interact, bringing together the best minds in the industry, and fostering inspiration to fuel the next year of design and development. If you have been to MAX lately, this year is going to be different as we refocus on the community and ecosystem surrounding Adobe tools and technologies. We have great events planned and over the next few months I will be highlighting what to expect in Chicago, Barcelona, and Tokyo. MAX is changing and 2007 is the year to attend.

I look forward to seeing you at MAX!

Regards,

Ted Patrick
MAX Evangelist

PS. I will return to Flex Evangelism in November. Until then it is 100% MAX.

Please, please, please, Ted... get some quality speakers at this year's MAX! The year it was in Anaheim was fantastic! We were excited and motivated when we left. Last year, my colleagues and I walked out of half of the presentations. We were really disappointed. The sessions that held their own where the ones that an Adobe/Macromedia employee presented on. Otherwise, the presenters were either ill-prepared or just so unskilled at presenting they came across as arrogant, immature, or just un-educated in the technology or topic. Most of them seemed like they were doing a sales pitch for their own organizations. We were expecting to gain a lot from last years conference. Unfortunately, we walked away really disappointed. If you are looking for speakers that have a decent amount of experience presenting to technical/designer audiences, drop me a line. Some guys in our shop at Knoware have spoken at Macromedia events in the past and received good audience reviews. Sorry to sound harsh. We just want the conference to be as inspiring and memorable as it has for us in the past.

    Erik,

I agree and we have put alot of thought into the sessions and speakers for this years event. Additionally I have added 13 sessions from some of the leading speakers in the Flash/Flex/Web/Design markets. I will be revealing the speakers one by one over the next few months. It is a whos who list of the best of the best.

MAX will be different this year!

    Ted :)

Thanks Ted. We all appreciate that! We're hesitantly excited about MAX this year with the new stuff being released (AIR, et al.) and the fact that it's in our backyard - we're on the other side of the lake in West Michigan.

Look forward to hearing the line up and thanks for all your efforts!

I'd like to see some more effort in the area of how Adobe tools are being used in e-learning solutions. Last year felt very Flashlite 2 sales pitch-y. So a little more on process, workflows, and methodologies would be nice.

When will be the Adobe Max in Barcelona? I am living in Europe, so Barcelona is great!

how can people in regions no where near these events/other side of the world get involved?

our local Adobe people are really snowed under at the moment it seems, nothing much is coming out from them at all except some CS3 stuff (OK for designers I suppose... yawn).

Eg when it came to the ColdFusion 8 beta launch, we were envious of Ben Forta doing the user group tour - we got nothing. Not even a Breezo.

Our Flex and CF user groups are set-up ready to go and swing into action - throw us a bone, OK?
