Flex 3 Details Next Week

DIGG IT!     18 Comments Published Friday, June 01, 2007 at 12:12 PM .

I am going to be blogging about Flex 3 details all next week. Each day, starting on Monday June 4, I will be covering a major aspect of Flex 3 in detail. Many of these features have not been discussed publicly and this will be the first time for many to see what the teams have been working on. I will be showcasing some new components, Flex Builder 3 features, and discussing some "game changing" platform capabilities within Flex 3, Apollo, and Flash Player.

Trust me, you will not be disappointed, the teams at Adobe have been very very busy! It should be a wild week as the teams prepare for the beta of the single best release of Flex yet, Flex 3!

Have a great weekend, Flex 3 is right around the corner!

Ted :)

Please let there be Design time CSS (just like in Dreamweaver)!

Having to put mx:Style source="main.css" in every mxml file, just to get an idea in Design View how a single mxml file wil look like in a final compiled swf (where we just include a single mx:Style source="main.css" in the main.mxml file) is just becoming pretty annoying. Especially when you're dealing with a lot of nicely designed mxml files, all sharing one main.css. Also, linking to a single css file as I just described, adds up to the compile time enormously, and also adds a lot of filesize to the final swf, for no reason. Unless I'm missing something here, design time css is a much wanted feature for designers.

Looking forward to new details besides the already leaked Profiler, Advanced Components, Design View Zoom & SDK version selector etc... :)

    Peter,

I hear ya loud and clear on CSS. We have some things in there for ya!

The details released thus far just scratch the surface and there are many big features saved up.

    No worries.

    Ted :)

IFBIN 2.0 will ship on the Apollo bus tour using Flex 3. No worries Scott all will be revealed soon. World domination takes patience, constant pressure, time, and great software tools.

Didn't they cover this in MS101?

    Cheers,

    Ted :)

ugg, Ted, you're killin' me with the cliffhanger.

I love this platform, and can't wait to see where it goes.

Any chance of a free IDE for Flex, even if it is cut-down like VS Express?

I know you can code Flex in Notepad, but it's nowhere near as fun.

    Hi Ted!

I saw a sneak peek at Adobe Live! this week and was disappointed that Flex3.0 at this stage doesn't support code-behind. Is there a chance the team will implement it before its release?

    Cheers,
    Patrick

    Can't Wait!!

In my opinion Flex is the most exciting internet platform ever. At last a way for programmers to really show what thay can do when given the tools.

I came into web development from a machine code and c++ backgound, and I've spent years being bored out of my mind working with html. Thank you for letting me be a programmer again.

    cheers.

    Couldn't agree more with Glenn.
Keep up the good work because world domination indeed takes time :)

PS. Is there any chance to get a maxi Flex 3 class-poster ???

is it "next week" yet in your part of the world, Ted?

My "refresh browser" finger is just about to drop off....

mmm, I hope there are many improvements to Flex Builder too :) P.S. The standalone version works 100% better with Java 6 and Eclipse 3.2.2.
