As an experiment I downloaded the oldest Netscape browser version I could find Netscape 4.8. I installed Flash Player 9 and took some screenshots. Yes that is a Flex 2 SWF running in Flash Player 9 on Netscape 4.8. What is really cool is that this browser is completely unsupported in most AJAX applications. This type of low level reach enables Flash Player to work compatibly while the browser continues to evolve.

When FireFox 3 and IE 8 ship, Adobe Flash Player will be there working compatibly as usual.
Cheers,
Ted :)

It's so great to see the Adobe Flash Player acting like its business as usual with that stinky old version of NS but I would almost think it would be better for it to NOT work. Anyone still using an old POS like that needs to have incentive to update their browser. Continuing to hand them content will let them continue to hold on.
Ted, that screenshot of Adobe Flash Player 9 running a Flex 2 app in Netscape 4.8... that's just disturbing, man, it's wrong, it's unnatural somehow.... ;-)
Seriously, you're making a good case there, but the first objection would usually be "Nobody should be using Netscape anymore, and we have a sworn moral duty to raise those poor unfortunates from the depths of their depravity" and so on. Our counterpoint "well, some people only have older machines" would just play into that diversion, and the main idea would get muddied.
... hmmm... but it's a great picture you've got there, very striking....
We've got a wider reach than browser-pushing development does, that's clear from your screenshots... if we had FP9 on mobile yet then that would drive the point home too... hmm... is it "Among the clientside runtimes, you get not only furthest reach, but also most predictability, with the Adobe Flash Player", is something like that the key idea here...?

Time travelling Ted, always pushing it to the limit.
