Monday morning I begin work at Adobe Systems as a Flex Evangelist. I wanted to publicly thank Mike Downey, Mike Chambers, David Mendels, Ben Watson, and Christophe Coenraets for their efforts in beaming me aboard the best ship in the galaxy. I am really excited to be joining such an amazing team and company.
I really believe that the next 10+ years belongs to the Flash Platform in regard to rich application development tools and technologies. Having spent the better part of 9+ years working with Flash technologies, I continue to see signs that the platform is entering a great phase of growth. It is a very exciting time to be working with Flex and Flash and I am very excited to join the Flex team at Adobe.
There are some big changes in progress at my blog so mind the construction. By Monday I should have the onFlex.org site up and running.
Regards,
Theodore E. Patrick

That's terrific. Congrats !
Good to hear that you're coming to Cali again. It's not San Diego, but it's closer. Adobe's getting a good guy.
congratulations. I really enjoy the insights you share with the community.

Well, it seems not all of us here at the mothership knew about the new arrival. :) Welcome, and I look forward to working with you!
Welcome aboard !
congrats man!
Congratulations Ted.
I guess you're going to be pretty busy for a while getting your head around the new role but at some stage I'd be interested to hear more about what your role entails.
I run a Rich Internet Application software development company working almost exclusively with Flex 2.0 now & I'm interested in how to build a strong community of Flex developers feeding an even stronger market of users & organisations demanding Flex-based applications.
Its an interesting time for Adobe & Flex competing with a strong Ajax base on one hand & the unknown threat of Microsoft's WPF(/e) platform on the other. One area that Macromedia/Adobe need some improvement in in my opinion is the support of & harnessing of the Flex developer community. The Flex Derby is a small start but even that clumsily ignores in my opinion the huge potential of Flex as an Enterprise Application Development tool (witness no category for this in the Derby).
Flex is shortly going to be competing against WPF & WPF/E-based developer apps like Expression. A limited MSDN-subscriber type Developer Network would be welcomed by serious Flex developers who like us are putting their trust & operating businesses on the wonderful potential they see in Flex. Although the universality of WPF(/e) seems a bit foggy at this stage, MS will obviously be a big player in this market & they have the advantage of a massive community of developers who have their identity in being "Microsoft developers".
Adobe have a window of opportunity to win over developers based on its fantastic capabiltities here & now.
I wish you all the best in evangelising Flex.

:-)
Mitch,
I hear you loud and clear.
I will be posting more about my role as Flex Evangelist in the coming week.
In a nutshell, my job is to:
1. Make Developers Successful.
2. Make Developers Successful.
3. Make Developers Successful.
If Adobe can make developers successful using Flex/Flash/PDF/AJAX, we will have grown the market for Rich Internet Applications and Rich Desktop Applications (RIA + RDA).
- Better projects
- Better jobs/rates
- Better marketplace
- Better examples
- Better community
- Better tools
My role at Adobe is to make developers successful, it's that simple.
Ted :)
"Make Developers Successful" - I like your mantra :-)
look forward to hearing more about your role Ted.
best wishes
Mitch
